Welcome to the District!

Who are we?

The State Street District (formerly known as the State Street Area Association) is a nonprofit membership association, founding the State Street Art Fair in 1967. The District is a nonprofit key player in creating a vibrant downtown community in Ann Arbor for over fifty years through strategic partnerships, initiatives, programs, and events. Entrepreneurs, building owners, city officials, national chains, non-profit organizations, University staff, and residents have all worked together to build a strong, service-oriented organization.

The District promotes and connects residents, business, philanthropic, and government partners to help create a vibrant and resilient urban core for Ann Arbor. The District takes an active role in development and planning decisions that positively impacts the city’s economic prosperity and downtown vitality. Additionally, we provide support to create a cleaner, safer, and welcoming Downtown for all.
