about the fair

The Ann Arbor State Street Art Fair is one of the four contiguous art fairs that transform downtown Ann Arbor for 4 days in July with over 400,000 attendees. The State Street Art Fair takes over the city streets within the State Street District and brings the art world to the District. The State Street Art Fair is known for its eclectic style and wonder as it joins fine art and the vibrant downtown District neighborhood.

New in 2019, the Ann Arbor State Street Hand-Crafted Marketplace is being made to run concurrently with the State Street Fine Art Fair. It will offer artists, artisans and craftspersons an opportunity to showcase, build awareness and value for handmade goods as an alternative to mass-produced items.

In addition to the art, the retail climate explodes with a host of merchant displays and food of all kinds as outdoor shoppers search for sales or relax while enjoying a beverage or meal amid the throngs of artist displays.

For over 50 years, the State Street Art Fair has been the District's premier event.  The Fair is a nationally recognized and award-winning art fair that combines the talents of 250+ artists along the vibrant streets of Ann Arbor’s downtown. With the addition of the Emerging Artist section, the Fair is looking forward to reinventing our next 50 years and continuing to provide the Midwest with the best art event.

Fine Arts, Fine Crafts

The standards set for acceptance reflect in the artists' dedication to excellence and quality. A jury of both practicing artists and other arts professionals has the task of screening prospective exhibitors, always looking for fresh and innovative approaches as well as stunning examples of age-old techniques.

The show combines both highly contemporary works alongside very traditional crafts:

  • Fiber

  • Glass

  • Jewelry

  • Painting

  • Ceramics

  • Photography

  • Wood & more

The Ann Arbor Art Fair offers visitors of all types the opportunity to explore fine art and handmade crafts along with fabulous restaurants and retail shops offering summer sales. Downtown Ann Arbor is an exciting backdrop for this decades old event that has captivated art enthusiasts, young and old for generations.
